Sixty-Two Percent of U.S. Adults are Struggling to Meet Monthly Expenses,
According to Decision Analyst Survey
Arlington, Texas—Sixty-two percent of U.S. adults are struggling to meet
their monthly expenses, according to a nationwide study by Decision Analyst,
a leading marketing research and analytical consulting firm.
In its recent survey, Decision Analyst asked a nationally representative sample of 3,000 U.S. adults, “How would you describe your household's current financial situation?” The results are shown here:

The “struggling” category includes adults who say they are “barely able” to meet expenses and those who report “difficulty” meeting monthly expenses.
By Age
It appears that adults aged 35 to 54 are experiencing the greatest financial distress, as shown in the following table.

By Income
Not surprisingly, respondents with incomes less than $25,000 per year are more likely to report struggling to meet their monthly expenses compared to those respondents with incomes of $75,000 or more.

Methodology
This Decision Analyst’s study was conducted online via its proprietary American Consumer Opinion® Online, one of the largest research panels in the world (www.acop.com). Participants were a nationally representative, statistically balanced sample of 3,000 American adults. The sample was carefully balanced by gender, ethnicity, age, and geography. The survey’s margin of error is approximately 2 percent, plus or minus, at a 95% confidence level.
